About the Job
Job Purpose Responsibilities
- Plan and carry out in situ and operando spectroscopic and kinetic studies on your own, including experiment design, instrument operation, and data analysis.
- Grow into an internationally recognised expert in the fields of kinetic studies and vibrational spectroscopies use with heterogeneous catalysts.
- Provide knowledge to the company’s R&D initiatives and overall operations. If necessary, cross-train colleagues and translate the expertise.
- Communicate with R&D and project teams about the planning and scoping of characterization projects. Present and report findings clearly, and when it’s appropriate, publish the results.
- Create connections and initiatives that make use of the Surface Science and Advanced Characterization group’s analytical skills.
- Oversee and coordinate outside collaborations and services to expand SABIC’s current analytical capabilities.
- Maintains lab equipment by following operating instructions, identifying malfunctions, and carrying out preventative maintenance and repairs?
- Provides full, complete, and accurate documentation of all work as required by SOPs and Company policies and procedures?
- Exhibit a dedication to safety. Complete all tasks in a timely and safe manner. Identify items that relate to safety in a proactive manner and take the necessary action. Take part in safety meetings and audits.
Requirements:
- PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Surface Science, Materials Sciences, or a closely related field.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with vibrational spectroscopies and mass spectrometry in a heterogeneous catalysis laboratory in an academic or industrial setting.
Technical skills:
- Using mass spectrometers and gas chromatographs; operating Raman/FTIR spectrometers that connect to in-situ cells.
- Data analysis: knowledge of (micro-) kinetic simulation, chemo-metrics (PCA/MCR-ALS), and the fundamentals of IR and Raman spectroscopy.
- Valued: Python programming using pertinent ML/statistical methods for assessing the findings and conclusions.
- Shown proficiency through talks at conferences and publications (internal and external).
- Catalyst and petrochemical knowledge and comprehension are preferred.
- Outstanding communication abilities in both written and spoken English.
